Chelsea open talks for Kounde after Spurs fail to convince Frenchman

According to trusted journalist Fabrizio Romano, generally reliable for transfer news, Chelsea have opened talks with Sevilla over the potential signing of Jules Kounde.

The French defender was thought to be awaiting Real Madrid, with suggestions that a move to the Spanish capital was his priority. However, as reported elsewhere, Real Madrid do not plan on recruiting another defender this summer, despite losing both Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane.

This has forced Kounde to look elsewhere, and while Tottenham were thought to be interested, a lack of Champions League football has put off the defender.

According to new reports, however, it is London rivals Chelsea that are the latest club to open talks with the defender, with Tuchel’s side having the obvious added incentive of Champions League football.

As a result, Kounde is allegedly “open” to accepting a move to Stamford Bridge, which would leave Antonio Rudiger, Thiago Silva and Andreas Christensen fighting over the last two spots in the Blues back line.

It remains to be seen just how serious any negotiations prove to be, but where Kounde ends up is certainly something to keep an eye on this summer
