Chelsea secure 'hefty' clause on Newcastle transfer as Pochettino handed funds

Chelsea transfer news: Mauricio Pochettino is set for a hefty boost thanks to Newcastle's move for Tino Livramento this summer.

Recent reports have stated that the right-back is readying a switch from the south coast to the north east, following on from the Saints' relegation. At just 20-years-old, Livramento has had a mixed time of it since moving on from the Blues two-years ago in search of playing time.

The defender impressed in his debut campaign at Saint Mary's, attracting interest from some top clubs over the year that followed. That would take an unfortunate turn though as a serious cruciate ligament injury in his knee ruled him out of action for roughly one-year.

His absence was sorely felt as Southampton were relegated to the Championship and with it has come plenty of renewed interest from clubs. Chelsea have been one of those linked with a return, with the west London outfit claimed to have a buyback clause involved.

According to TalkSPORT, the deal has been agreed at around £35million, including add-ons and while it may be seen as a potential target missed for Chelsea, they are handed a boost in all of this. Livramento has a sell-on clause inserted into his contract that has been described as "hefty".

That could mean the Blues earn anywhere up to 50 percent of the over fee, netting roughly £17.5million at maximum for the transaction. That could equate to further funds available for Pochettino in the summer transfer market, be it towards another promising youngster for the future or a bigger first-team target.

It remains to be seen which moves will come next for Chelsea, but they may now have more wiggle room thanks to a former Cobham academy graduate.
