Chelsea set sights on Gregor Kobel and could let BOTH Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy leave

Chelsea are set to offload BOTH Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy as they look to bring in Borussia Dortmund goalie Gregor Kobel.

The Swiss stopper signed for Dortmund in 2021 from Stuttgart and according to German outlet Bild is a target for the Blues after a string of impressive displays between the sticks.

Kobel is under contract until 2026, but the report states the 25-year-old has been added to Chelsea's wish list and has been placed high on the club's scouting list.

The West London club see him as a possible replacement for both Arrizabalaga and Mendy, who have both failed to make the number one shirt their own at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea made Arrizabalaga the world's most expensive goalkeeper when he signed from Athletic Bilbao in 2018 for a £71million fee, but the Spanish stopper has endured a roller-coaster of a spell with the Blues.

Famously having an on-pitch argument with Maurizio Sarri during the 2019 EFL Cup Final, and failing to convince subsequent managers that he could be the club's long term number one.

Mendy meanwhile has reportedly already snubbed a new six-year contract from Chelsea after the wages offered failed to match that of compatriot Arrizabalaga.

That offer has now reportedly been withdrawn by the club, with Chelsea set to play hard-ball with the player in a hope it will break the current stand-off.

The Senegalese keeper helped Chelsea to win the Champions League in 2021, and was named UEFA Goalkeeper of the Year but has only played eight Premier League games so far this season.

Mendy has two and half years remaining on his current deal, but AC Milan are monitoring the situation with French sides Nice and Monaco also keen on the keeper.

If Chelsea are to replace their current goalies with Dortmund's Kobal they would have to pay significantly more than the £13.2m Dortmund spent two years ago.

He has played 21 times for the German side this season, and there is a feeling he would be tempted to stay at the Westfalenstadion despite the reported interest from the Premier League.

Chelsea will be looking to cut some costs this summer following Todd Boehly's incredible outlay on players since he took ownership of the club, and exits are expected before next season to help balance the books.
