Mount a firm fan favourite
It is safe to say that Mason Mount is a firm favourite among the Chelsea match going faithful, with the Blues fans unveiling a massive new banner in honour of their midfielder against Aston Villa.
The Englishman has gone from strength to strength since returning to Chelsea from Derby County, where he spent the 18/19 season on loan with Frank Lampard. He has since gone on to make 111 appearances for the west London outfit at just 22 years old, scoring 17 goals and assisting a further 16 in that time.
To make matters better for the youngster, he has already lifted the Champions League trophy, often thought of as the pinnacle of club football. Indeed, it was his pass to Kai Havertz that sent the German through on goal to score what proved the winner in the final of the competition.
Mount set to be offered a new deal
As a result of his form and undeniable talent, the Daily Mail report that Chelsea are set to open talks with the midfielder over a new deal.
There is no rush to complete this, with Mount’s current deal expiring in 2024, but the Mail report that Chelsea are keen to double his wages, from £75,000 to £150,000 per week, in order to ensure that he remains a key part of their squad for years to come.
Mount featured heavily for England in the summer, making four starts including in the final against Italy, but has not let that affect his club efforts to date, starting 3 of the opening four games of Thomas Tuchel’s campaign.
A new contract feels well deserved
