Chelsea news: Julian Nagelsmann is appreciated at Stamford Bridge but the Blues could place a significant battle if they want to appoint the former Bayern Munich boss
Julian Nagelsmann looks set to be a sought-after manager this summer following his surprise sacking as Bayern Munich boss in March. The 35-year-old had lost just three games in charge this season but saw his time in Munich come to a premature end with bosses at the German club worried about missing out on a potential treble.
Bayern do sit top of the Bundesliga and prior to the sacking of Nagelsmann were in the Champions League and DFB Pokal quarter-finals. However, with former Blues boss Thomas Tuchel now at the helm, Bayern were shockingly knocked out of the German cup on Tuesday evening by Freiburg making the decision to part ways with Nagelsmann appear even more baffling.
In a recent interview, Enrique said: "I follow above all the Premier [League] because I would like to go to England to work. I wouldn't go to any team but to one that could do important things, which greatly reduces the number. I don't put my hopes up, really, because there are many candidates.
"I am lucky because my personal life fills me up. That it takes longer, that no offers arrive, well, it is what it is. I would go to a team with possibilities. That doesn't mean that I wouldn't work in Spain."
The timing of Potter's dismissal did coincide with Nagelsmann being back available, but the Blues do face some challenges to appoint him before the end of the season. Firstly, following his exit from Bayern, Nagelsmann wishes to take a period of reflection before getting back into the management game, while a new club likely looking for a manager ahead of the 2023/24 season could tempt him away from the Chelsea job.
French journalist Abdellah Boulma is reporting that Paris Saint-Germain manager Christophe Galtier will not be in charge of the Parisians next season. He also claims an imminent sacking is possible and that the French club have made 'first contact' over Chelsea for Nagelsmann.
