Chelsea target Presnel Kimpembe offered to Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid have been offered the opportunity to sign Paris Saint-Germain defender and Chelsea target Presnel Kimpembe.

According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, Presnel Kimpembe has offered himself to Atletico Madrid ahead of the new season. The French centre-back is one of many players looking for a way out of Paris following the appointment of the new management that is set to be led by sporting director Luis Campos.

Campos has already urged the board to bring in Inter Milan star Milan Skriniar, which is set to pave the way for Kimpembe to leave Parc des Princes. Chelsea are among the clubs interested in the services of the French international, but it appears the player’s agents have offered Atletico Madrid the opportunity to snap him in the summer.

Atleti have appeared reluctant to sign the defender ahead of the new season. It is hardly a surprise as the club are going through a difficult economic situation. They are only expected to make a move if Mario Hermoso leaves the club, amid interest from Newcastle United.

It plays into the hands of Chelsea, who are determined to land a new centre-back amid an ongoing exodus in the defensive unit. The Blues have lost Antonio Rudiger to Real Madrid, while Andreas Christensen has also departed as a free agent. Furthermore, Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso have been linked with a move to FC Barcelona.

Their departures should create a massive void in the Chelsea defence, prompting the club to enter the market for several star defenders. Coach Thomas Tuchel has already expressed the desire to sign Juventus superstar Matthijs de Ligt while Jules Kounde is another top option for the German tactician.

However, Presnel Kimpembe could be another wise choice for Tuchel. A product of the PSG youth academy, the French international offers vast experience at the highest level of football, having featured in over 150 Ligue 1 matches. He has even won the FIFA World Cup with France in 2018 and had played a key role in PSG’s dominance in the French top-flight.

Kimpembe should not cost a fortune either as his current deal at PSG expires in 2024. Although the Parisian juggernaut are holding out for a fee of €50 million, Chelsea could perhaps negotiate a lower fee and secure the services of their first quality centre-back ahead of the new season.
