Chelsea's £88m misfit Mudryk 'is ready to play for Ukraine in Under 21 Euros'

Mykhailo Mudryk has made himself available to play for Ukraine's Under-21s in the youth side's European Championship campaign this summer, in the hope that he can play himself back into form, according to reports.

Mudryk has had a rough start to his career at Stamford Bridge, having cost the Blues £88million in January from Shakhtar Donetsk, with Arsenal having courted the player for some time before their cross-town rivals swept in at the last

In 15 Premier League games the Ukrainian managed just two assists, as he swiftly fell down the pecking order at a struggling Chelsea side, spending much of the tail end to the campaign on the bench.

However, he has reportedly put his name forward to represent his country at the U21 Euros this summer, although it remains to be seen whether he will be selected for the competition squad.

Chelsea, however, are thought to have given their consent and backed the 22-year-old's decision to offer his services.

This summer should prove to be a momentous one for the wet London outfit, as they prepare to welcome Mauricio Pochettino to the dugout, when he officially takes over as manager from July 1.

The Argentine is expected to oversee a squad clear out, with the club's ranks becoming bloated by Todd Boehly's £600m-splurge over the previous two windows.

Mudryk is eligible for the Euros this summer despite featuring in the senior side's international fixtures, most recently taking part in a friendly with Germany on Monday evening.

Ukraine earned a deserved 3-3 draw, with a Joshua Kimmich last-gasp penalty equalising for the Germans in the well-fought tie.

Serhiy Rebrov's senior side will take on North Macedonia on Friday and Malta on Monday as they continue their Euro 2024 qualification bid, in England's Group C.

Featuring in the youth competition could provide the forward with the game time needed to return to the scintillating form that saw the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal enamoured with his game.

Now, though, with his Chelsea future at a critical cross-roads he could benefit his position under Pochettino with an impressive tournament.

There are few concerns over the impact of another tournament at the end of the season, having already had two weeks holiday before the competition, and another rest period before Chelsea's pre-season tour, should Ukraine even reach the final.

He also managed only 655 minutes from a possible 1,710 in the Premier League since his arrival, just 38 per cent, so fatigue will likely be at a minimum.

Blues team-mate Callum Hudson-Odoi drew criticism when he refused to make himself available for England's U21s in the past, having already played for the senior side.

Then-boss Thomas Tuchel saying: 'If I speculate a little bit I think it’s about disappointment that he is not nominated for the first team, but at the same time maybe he did not have enough minutes to be nominated for the first team.

'I could see the upgrade in having some minutes and being in a leading role for the Under-21s, but he decided differently so he will deal with the consequences.'
