Calls for Billy Gilmour to earn a call-up to the Scotland senior squad have not been heeded after he was selected for their Under-21 contingent on Tuesday morning.
The highly-rated youngster has caught the eye in the past week after shining in midfield for Chelsea.
The 18-year-old has been hailed as 'incredible' by Blues boss Frank Lampard but his selection to the national team has been deemed as too soon for the precocious talent.
Gilmour will instead join Scotland's U21 setup for their Euro Under-21 Championship qualifiers with Croatia and Greece later this month.
Scot Gemmill's side host Croatia at Tynecastle on March 27 before traveling to Crete to take on Greece on March 31.

Give him time, despite how good the lads been he still isnt ready to shoulder such responsibility at once. Scottish manager did the right thing even though he would have been 1 of their if not their best midfielder. Need to wait and see a lot more than just 2 games to get the spot it would be unfair on others fighting for positions in the team. That being said in the future he will definitely be in there but I just dont want to see a player get their national call up on a plate Billy has to learn that he will have to fight for his place both national and international. Hes a strong character and a good kid so I reckon he will fight for his place though and I hope we keep seeing what he can bring to the team and I cant even begin to imagine how good he would be at like 23 if hes this good at 18 just needs to keep away from injuries maybe out on some muscle to avoid injuries in the future being too strenuous.
