Chicago Fire 'pull out of move for Matic after deeming him too expensive'

Chicago Fire have pulled out of a proposed move for Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic after the MLS club deemed the Serbian too expensive.

Matic is out of contract at United at the end of the season and has been heavily linked with a move away from the club.

However, reports indicate that United could now trigger their option to extend Matic's contract by a year.

Matic endured a frustrating first half of the season as he struggled with injury and was often not called upon when fit.

In recent weeks, though, Matic has become increasingly involved for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side. With Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay out, he is a useful option for United at present.

Matic could make his 100th appearance for United in the FA Cup third round replay at home to Wolves on Wednesday.

Marcos Rojo, meanwhile, won't be joining either Sporting Lisbon or Fenerbahce despite reports.
