Manchester City sealed the derby bragging rights as they defeated Manchester United 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium.
Match Report
Manchester City had little difficulty beating bitter rivals Manchester United 3-1 in Sunday's derby, as David Silva, Sergio Aguero and Ilkay Gundogan scored to leave Jose Mourinho's side 12 points adrift of the pacesetters.
Mourinho - managing his 300th Premier League match - was handed a pre-match blow in the shape of a Paul Pogba injury and United sorely missed his presence in midfield, as Pep Guardiola's men claimed victory without hitting top gear.
A breathless City opening soon dissipated after David Silva gave them an early lead, but Sergio Aguero blasted them further ahead three minutes into the second half.
An Anthony Martial penalty handed United a lifeline, but City's win rarely looked in danger and Gundogan wrapped things up late on.
Match Events
12' GOAL! Man City 1-0 Man Utd (David Silva)
The pressure tells on the United defence and David Silva fires the home side into the lead. Sterling was the architect of the goal as he whipped a dangerous ball across the face of goal from the left flank.
Bernardo Silva collected and squared his pass into the six-yard box. Aguero looked to have been fouled before David Silva was able to gather the loose ball and place his effort past De Gea.
48' GOAL! Man City 2-0 Man Utd (Aguero)
City double their lead out of nothing. Aguero leads a break out of midfield and combines with Mahrez to surge into the right inside channel. The Argentine hammers an effort at goal from a tight angle.
Aguero connects sweetly with his strike and it flies through De Gea's hands into the back of the net. City have control of the game now.
58' Penalty Goal! Man City 2-1 Man Utd (Martial)
Lukaku has an immediate impact as he wins a penalty for the visitors. Ederson brings him down in the left inside channel and the referee does not hesitate in pointing to the spot.
The Frenchman takes the responsibility from 12 yards due to Pogba's absence. There's no staggered run-up from Martial as he strides forward before sidefooting his effort into the bottom corner, sending Ederson the wrong way.
The Brazilian boots the ball out of his net in frustration. He knows that he has let United back into the game.
86' GOAL! Man City 2-0 Man Utd (Gundogan)
Bernardo Silva was afforded space and time on the edge of the box and he lifted a precise delivery into the feet of Gundogan.
The City midfielder couldn't miss as he acres of room to control and bury his effort into the net.

Guardiola is a genius. Starts Mahrez and Aguero, they get a goal and assist, then their play becomes predictable and he switches up with Sane and Gundogan. Sane adds pace on the wing and then Gundogan scores a goal. His was a crazy team effort though, Peps strategies were too good for Man Utd.

as a united fan I hate to say this but city is so much superior to utd right now. there is no.match for city's supremacy , I will not blame Jose or anyone, utd just needs a full revamp , Lukaku, matic, Fellaini, Herrera, our defence line, young, even rashford. we need better players , better performances. hats off to city ...fully deserves the victory. I hate to say this I would prefer pep anyday over mou. untill next time. #ggmu

There were 44 passes in the build-up for Ilkay Gündogan's goal v Manchester United - the most before a goal in the Premier League since Juan Mata scored for Man Utd against QPR in September 2015 (45) There were just 30 seconds between Romelu Lukaku coming on as a sub, and winning ManUtd's penalty. No player has scored more goals in premierleague Manchester derbies than Sergio Aguero (8, level with Wayne Rooney).

Does Jose Mourinho review the Matches his team plays? Is he happy and proud of this sheepish, crude and cowardly defensive football his team plays? How can any Manager sit back in your final 3rd against a team like Manchester City and expect not to be punished? And this happens match after match against all teams. How can Manchester United play for 90 minutes and the ONLY shot on target was the Penalty. It is so disgraceful and disgusting. I will not blame David De Gea if he refuses to renew his Contract. Manchester United is depreciating his performance.

Predictable result. I told y'all United fans that City are more in form than Juve is right now. City is a team that can finish their dinner when it's served on a plate. Even Gundogan who looked shaky managed to score. City are looking well ahead of every other prem team this season. And without Pogba to create in that midfield as I mentioned, City were always going to win this.....

The problem with man united is people living in the past and ignoring reality. Sir Alex Ferguson did what he did then and its gone forever. In his time there was only Arsene Wenger and the rest were losers now football has changed and a lot of money has come into play. No amount of history will compete with cash to hire thw best coaches and the best players. I see club legends talking of how thwy played 20 years ago or 10 years ago and want that to influence the current setup but it just doesn't work like that. City is better than all the teams in the league not just united and its a reality that everyone is conveniently ignoring. Even sir alex with all his brilliance WOULD NEVER BEAT THIS PEP CITY IN A LIFETIME.

mourinho had never ever learnt from his mistakes playing too much defence. when I look at the starting 11 with 3 defend midfielders in herrera, matic, fellaini, how can you connect with the forwards, that why Martial and Rashford so isolated? and why start Lingard who just got back from injury? mourinho should have started 4-2-3-1 with Matic, Herrera, Martial, Mata, Rashford, Lukaku or Matic, Herrera, Martial, Mata, Sanchez, Rashford. Psychologically, it is a wrong approach as the more you defend without putting pressure on your opponents then they will play with ease, and when they play with ease, they will score.
