City transfers: No interest in Enzo Fernandez but Elliot Anderson remains the priority

Manchester City will prioritise signing Elliot Anderson this summer and have no intention of pursuing a move for Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez, with the Blues putting a £100m price tag on the midfielder.

Reports have credited City with an interest with the Chelsea midfielder - but Sky Sports News has been told that is not the case.

City's priority remains the signing of Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest.

Sky Sports News exclusively revealed last month that City are in pole position to sign Anderson, with the increasing expectation that he ends up at the Etihad this summer.

Fernandez is valued at more than £100m but Chelsea are not trying to sell the player. He has a Chelsea contract until 2032.

The Argentine was dropped for two games in April after he admitted he would welcome living in Madrid. The player and his agent also apologised for his comments. They had been seeking improved terms at Chelsea.

Real Madrid will sign a midfielder this summer and Fernandez is one of their top targets. Chelsea signed him from Benfica for €121m (£104m) in January 2023.

City's Maresca talks continue

City are continuing talks with Enzo Maresca this week about succeeding Pep Guardiola.

Contrary to reports, all the points of a proposed three-year contract are not yet fully agreed.

However, a contract is expected to be finalised in the coming days, as discussions centre around the timeline of his appointment, the make-up of his backroom staff, and other finer details.

The club announced on Tuesday that two more of Guardiola's assistants - Pep Ljinders and Kolo Toure - are leaving the Etihad, along with Lorenzo Buenaventura, Manel Estiarte and Xabi Mancisidor.

Maresca, who left Chelsea in acrimonious circumstances in January, still had three-and-a-half years left on his contract there - and club lawyers will be taking a keen interest in his next move, as compensation may well be due.

Chelsea were informed by Maresca last autumn that he had been the subject of interest from City about eventually replacing Guardiola when he decided to leave, having worked under him as assistant coach during the 2022/23 season.

What else are Man City looking at?

The club are also looking at other positions including forwards - and Sky Sports News reaveled last month two more names on their list of potential new recruits: RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande and Bournemouth striker Eli Junior Kroupi.

Diomande is one of the hottest prodigies on the market this summer, and is high on the lists at Liverpool and Bayern Munich among many others.

Kroupi is an excellent young striker prospect who has impressed since moving to Bournemouth last summer, scoring 10 goals in 28 Premier League appearances.

City are currently well-stocked across the forward line however, with Savinho supporting Jeremy Doku on the left-wing and Omar Marmoush the backup centre-forward to Erling Haaland.

Right-back is also an area City are looking at and Sky Sports News has already reported they are tracking the progress of young Feyenoord man Givairo Read among others.
