Scotland manager Steve Clarke will attempt to use this summer to bolster his squad ahead of next season's European Championship qualifiers.
Clarke was disappointed but not disheartened by the performance in Belgium on Tuesday night when his new charges were beaten 3-0 by the No 1 ranked team in the world.
Now he will spend the close season on a recruitment mission to increase his selection options.
Scotland play Russia, Belgium, Cyprus, San Marino and Kazakhstan in the autumn – and Clarke has three players, who qualify for Scotland through their grandparents, in his sights to add to his options.
CHE ADAMS
The 22-year-old Birmingham striker would bring proven firepower to the squad.
Adams was a target for Middlesbrough in January but Birmingham rejected the bid. He also interested Fulham.
Birmingham are likely to sell the highly-rated front man in the close season and Clarke is aware of what he would bring to the Scotland set-up.
HARVEY BARNES
The 21-year-old Leicester winger is currently with the England Under 21 squad for the European Championship finals.
He can also play for Scotland and he will be sounded out about his willingness to play full international football for Clarke's men.
RYAN FREDERICKS
The right back was signed by West Ham on a free transfer for Fulham a year ago.
He would add proven Premier League experience to the Scotland squad ahead of the crucial qualifiers.

Bet this goes well with Sturgeon wanting indyref2 ! You would think only 100% Scottish blood born, bred and living there would satisfy her hatred of England ... or is there desperation in the attempt after so many poor performances !
Yeah we hate Nicola sturgeon

Steve Clarke’s attempt to avoid putting rangers players in the Scotland squad

This tactic must be so disheartening to actual young Scottish/Welsh players that dream of playing for their country.

This has got to stop. Scotland, ireland and wales need to start producing their own players. I find it hypocritical especially when theyre always saying our players are crap, but jump at the chance to pinch English players when they see fit.

England have benefited from this for years. Raheem Sterling for example. But nobody says anything there of course

The only surprise is that Northern Ireland don't do it more. Wales do it all the time.

Seems sensible. If England don't want them then they should get international football where they are eligible.

Why would any young player with real ambition choose to play for Scotland rather than England though there is a case for uncapped players well into their careers taking this option.

I think the Scots will prefer players who want to play for the shirt,. Qualification through grand parents should be stopped for all countries
