It was Danny Makkelie who took charge of the all-important semi-final between England and Denmark on Wednesday night.
Makkelie awarded Denmark the free-kick that saw them take the lead in the 30th minute of the game.
He also handed England the all-important penalty that saw England win the game 2-1. However, he denied the Three Lions the opportunity to increase their lead to 3-1.
Here's what Mark Clattenburg through of Makkelie's decision in England's victory...
Danes will argue penalty decision was harsh...but it wasn't a clear and obvious error
It was a tale of two spot-kicks for England: one given, one not.
For the first one, sub Christian Norgaard was just in front of Harry Kane and though Kane got the ball, as the ref didn’t give it I don’t think it was a clear and obvious error that could be overturned.
For Raheem Sterling’s, Joakim Maehle made minor contact with the winger.
I don’t think the tackle warranted a spot-kick in such a key moment. The Danes will argue it was harsh. But again it wasn’t a clear and obvious error.
Referee was right on Denmark’s FK
Luke Shaw was clearly holding on to Andreas Christensen and so Dutch referee Danny Makkelie was right to give a free-kick.
England supporters won’t be pleased with it, I’m sure, but Makkelie did well to spot the infringement amid the mass of bodies.

why awarding a penalty at that crucial time of the match. he should have allowed it to end in draws then normal penalties follows. they already knew they were gonna loose because Denmark keeper would have embarrassed them as he did to Kane if not the rebounce

errors are part of the beautiful game called football, if it goes in your favor you're always happy and fine, but if it goes the other way it quite painful to take as football is full of emotions
