Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo's girlfriend announced on social media that their unborn son had passed away during pregnancy.
Gakpo's girlfriend, Noa, posted a photo on social media showing two adult hands placed on an infant's head wrapped in swaddling clothes, with the caption: "With broken hearts, we share this devastating news that our baby boy passed away during pregnancy. Elijah Raphael Gakpo, forever loved, forever our son."
"We went to church to light a candle. Afterward, we took our son, Samuel, to the church playground. There was only one other child there. His name was Elijah. This could not be a more beautiful sign from God, reminding us that our little boy is never truly far from us."
Gakpo and his girlfriend, Noa, welcomed their first child, son Samuel, in 2024. In May 2026, they announced they were expecting their second child, only to tragically suffer a miscarriage.
Currently, Gakpo is with the Dutch national team competing in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
