Confusion at the Bernabeu as Mateu Lahoz stopped a Real Madrid counter attack

Real Madrid fans at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu were angry and confused in the 87th minute of their match against Sevilla as a promising counter attack was blown dead.

It turned out that the Sevilla corner from which the break originated had curled out of bounds on its way into the penalty area, for which a goal kick was awarded.

Yet the players didn't spot this and Vinicius was able to unleash Karim Benzema, who had acres of space in front of him.

The Frenchman was almost at the penalty box by the time he realised that play had been stopped.

Referee Antonio Miguel Mateu Lahoz explained what had happened to Sergio Ramos and to Benzema, who were livid given that the score was just 1-0 at the time.

Luka Modric, though, added a late second to ensure Los Blancos collected all three points.
