Antonio Conte’s long-serving assistant Angelo Alessio has been named the new boss of Scottish side Kilmarnock.
Alessio’s move to Killie sees him replace Steve Clarke, who recently became Scotland CT, while it marks his first managerial role since a stint at SPAL in 2008.
“It is a real honour for me to be named Kilmarnock manager,” he told his new club’s official website.
“I’ve spent a lot of time researching and gathering information about the club and everyone I spoke to had nothing but positive things to say about Kilmarnock.
“I can’t wait to get to work with the players and staff on the training pitch and building on the strong foundations left by Steve Clarke.”
Director Billy Bowie added: “On behalf of the Board of Directors, I’m delighted to name Angelo as the new manager of Kilmarnock FC.
“We were extremely impressed by the calibre of the candidates for the vacancy but Angelo’s knowledge and passion for the role really shone through.
“This is a hugely exciting period for Kilmarnock as we celebrate the club’s 150th Anniversary and play European football for the first time in 18 years and we’re looking forward to this new chapter with Angelo at the helm.”
The 54-year-old assisted Conte at Siena, Juventus, Italy and Chelsea but did not follow him to Inter.
He also had a spell as caretaker Coach of Juve during the 2012-13 campaign .

Very ambitious appointment IMO. Will be interesting to see how it pans out for Killie in the Europa League qualifiers and in the league.

Good luck Angelo. Wish you nothing but the best. I don't know how strong Kilmarnock is relative to the Scottish league, but I hope he can get a lot of success there.

Either going to win the league or be relegated by december. Exciting stuff either way!

Brilliant seeing Kilmarnock make a progressive out side the box decision, rather than the same old dinosaurs.

An interesting appointment to say the least. Great coaching pedigree and worked with some amazing players but there isn't a huge history of long term assistants doing particularly well when they move into head coaching. Especially in a country they've never worked in before. Saying that, he's got a great group of players at Killie and an expectant, excited fanbase.

Going from playing at grounds like Old Trafford and the San Siro to the Simple Digital Arena and the Toni Macaroni Arena. Massive step up for him but we’ll see how he does.

At least it isn't the tired old managerial merry-go-round type manager. A bold appointment! Good luck to him.
