Could Raphinha be the ideal replacement for Salah at Liverpool?

Mohamed Salah's Liverpool future is far from certain with the Egyptian yet to sign a new contract at Anfield.

Salah's current deal at the Merseyside club runs out in 2023, and after a host of players signing new contracts at Liverpool this summer, the club want to avoid him entering the final year of his current agreement next summer.

There have been links away for ex-Chelsea and Roma man in the past, with Real Madrid one of the clubs mentioned, but if he does end up leaving Liverpool, who would be an ideal replacement?

Leeds United's Raphinha has enjoyed a prolific spell in the Premier League since his side's promotion in 2020, and is a player who would fit in well in Jurgen Klopp's team.

In his 33 Premier League appearances so far, the Brazilian has scored six times and assisted on nine occasions. The attributes that make him stand out, however, are his quick feet, ability to go past a defender and confidence to take on shots in the final third as well as his powerful frame and fiery aggression.

This kind of directness and ability to unlock defences with both feet would make him the ideal replacement should Salah move elsewhere in the coming months.

His explosiveness draws comparisons between himself and both Sadio Mane and Salah before they moved to Anfield.

The Brazil international is reportedly very happy in Yorkshire for the time being, but a player of his potential, at this stage in his career, will surely be looking to play Champions League football in the coming years.

Liverpool are set to visit Elland Road this Sunday as they look to keep in touch with Manchester United and Chelsea at the top of the Premier League.
