Courtois: I have evolved more, I think Cristiano Ronaldo is the same player as when I was at Atletico Madrid

Portugal will face Belgium in the round of 16 at Euro 2020 with Cristiano Ronaldo in lethal form, yet despite the forward having scored in every single game at the tournament so far, Belgium goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, believes he has evolved since he last came up against the forward.

Ronaldo scored a lot of goals past Courtois during his time with Atletico Madrid, and with the Portuguese star having already netted five times at Euro 2020, the odds are stacked against Real Madrid's stopper.

"We have a plan to stop Portugal, they aren't just one player," Courtois admitted in his pre-match press conference.

"Cristiano is the top scorer in the Euros, he's an excellent player, obviously. However, I think he is still the same player he was when I was at Atletico, I have evolved more."

Eden Hazard has endured a nightmare two seasons at Real Madrid with injuries preventing him from leaving any mark at all on Los Blancos' pursuit of trophies. With that being said, Courtois feels as though his teammate at both club and international level is nearing fitness.

"I see him in training and he [Hazard] trains very well, he is very close to his best form," Courtois added.

"That last few months in Madrid haven't been easy for him, he trains well but then suffers serious injuries. Then he has to pick up a rhythm by playing minutes, he is very strong mentally."
