But Coventry came roaring back, however, with Ellis Simms sweeping home on 71 minutes.

Callum O'Hare's deflected strike then gave United a further scare, making it 3-2 with 10 minutes remaining.

Incredibly Coventry were given a golden chance to complete a remarkable comeback in stoppage time, when they awarded a penalty for Aaron Wan-Bissaka's handball.

Haji Wright made no mistake from the spot, sending Andre Onana the wrong way to make it 3-3 and take the match to extra time.

The first period was a tense affair with neither side creating much after the frantic finish to the 90 minutes.

But only the crossbar denied Simms a winner late on as his spin and shot was tipped by Onana on to the woodwork and it bounced down on the line.

However, Victor Torp looked to have sealed the incredible comeback and achieved legendary status with a goal in the 120th minute - only for VAR to rule it out due to an offside in the build-up.

That meant that it went to penalties, and that resulted in either more drama.
