Crisp packets thrown onto pitch as Charlton fans continue protests against owner

Charlton fans threw crisp packets onto the pitch seconds into their League One fixture against Fleetwood at The Valley on Saturday in the latest protest against the club's absent owner Roland Duchatelet.

It was a response to reports in the week that a Charlton employee had to ask permission from HR to eat a packet of crisps at their desk.

Office staff have been ordered to eat lunch away from computers and other equipment after the working hours of cleaners were reduced.

It was the latest in a long line of cost-cutting measures implemented by Belgian owner Duchatelet who hasn't been to a Charlton game since 2014 - the same year he took ownership of the club.

Charlton fans protested outside the ground before the game against Fleetwood days after Sportsmail reported that staff were set to take legal action against Duchatelet over unpaid bonuses.

It is understood that Duchatelet has gone back on his promise to pay 10 per cent of salaries if certain targets were met by staff across all areas of the club.

The decision not to pay the staff their bonuses served as another insult to a majority who have continued to work as a goodwill gesture.

Staff are also working knowing that if they leave they won't be replaced which could put more pressure on their colleagues.

The new revelations come after water and food was being rationed at the club's training ground.

Sportsmail has also reported how academy players are no longer being provided with breakfast and bottled water, which fans have since started to supply at their own cost.

On Friday, the EFL, responsible for the governance of the 72 clubs in the three tiers below the Premier League, said it would meet with the club and the Charlton Athletic Supporters' Trust to 'gain a full understanding of the current situation that surrounds the club'.
