Portugal and Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo etched his name ever-further into the history books of international football on Saturday.

Qatar downed

CR7 and co. were back in action a short time ago.

Ahead of their only competitive outing of the international break, at home to Luxembourg next Tuesday, Portugal tonight brushed off the rust in a friendly meeting with Qatar – next year’s World Cup hosts.

Fernando Santos’ men actually only faced off against the Asian outfit a little over a month ago, eventually emerging on the right side of a 3-1 scoreline.

And tonight proved more of the same for A Selecao, who went on to completely dominate proceedings, on their way to a comfortable 3-0 win.

The aforementioned Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring at the Estadio Algarve, taking advantage of some fine running on the part of Diogo Dalot, as well as a defensive howler, to slot home from close range.

The hosts then doubled their lead early in the 2nd-half, when Jose Fonte slotted home on the rebound, before Andre Silva added some gloss to the scoreline with a late 3rd.

Another CR7 record

As outlined above, meanwhile, in finding the net for his country for the 112th time on Saturday, Cristiano Ronaldo went on to secure for himself yet another piece of history.

As revealed across social media, the 5-time Ballon d’Or winner has now notched for Portugal versus no fewer than 46 opposing nations, the highest tally ever managed by a single player on the international stage:
