Cristiano Ronaldo made no comment on scoring the 700th goal of his club career after helping Manchester United beat Everton 2-1 at Goodison Park on Sunday evening, focussing on the win itself instead.
After falling behind to Alex Iwobi's sumptuous effort with just five minutes on the clock, United got themselves back on level terms just 10 minutes later, courtesy of Antony's third goal in as many Premier League games. He was sent clear by Anthony Martial and he made no mistake to dispatch a cool finish past Jordan Pickford.
United completed the turnaround just before half-time, courtesy of Ronaldo's landmark strike. The Portuguese striker — who had stepped off the bench just before the half-hour mark to replaced the injured Martial — was sent scampering free by Casemiro and he slotted a cool, left-footed effort beyond Pickford to mark his crowning moment.
That proved to be enough to secure United maximum points and a fifth win in their last six league games. And it was the points, judging by Ronaldo's post-match social media post, that meant more to him than reaching another historic milestone in his rich and colourful career.
Ronaldo, posting on his Instagram page, said: "Great win guys! Another step in the right direction! #WeStandUnited."
Judging by that, it was the victory that was more satisfying for the 37-year-old than his milestone. He was one of three players dropped to the bench from the 3-2 win over Omonia Nicosia in Cyprus on Thursday night, with Marcus Rashford and Martial preferred in attack alongside Antony.
But with Martial, unfortunately, forced off injured, Ronaldo ensured that he took his chance when it presented itself, leaving manager Erik ten Hag with a potential selection headache ahead of back-to-back home games in the space of just a few days against Omonia and Newcastle United this coming week.

I'm a Messi fun but, why do people troll Ronaldo even for his positive side?. Life can't always be smooth. This guy made football very beautiful when he was on top. Things suddenly turned rough on his side but, he didn't give up. He still fought to reach this milestone of 700 club career goals. He deserves congratulations on that.

New way of celebration vs old way of celebration! Ask yourself, why not the siuuuuuuuuuuuuu celebratiion for the 700th goal? Because cr5 has finally learned humility! Ten Hang has subdued, dominated, captured, and conquered cr5. And the way he celebrated his 700th goal showed it all. Cr5 mentality has been changed by Ten Hang, bench roles at utd has made him a better ma. Siuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuiiiii shows obsessions for personal glory, it shows selfishness,it shows laughable arrogance,it shows unnecessary desperation. Anyway congratulations 🎊 to cristiano. To all his fans, the truth is,it took cr5 150 matches more than Messi to reach 700th goal.
