Crouch & Hoddle critical of Lloris' role in BOTH Leipzig goals

Peter Crouch and Glenn Hoddle have expressed their criticisms of Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris after the Frenchman was at fault for both of RB Leipzig's goals in the Champions League clash on Tuesday.

Spurs traveled to Germany looking to overturn a first leg deficit after Leipzig had won 1-0 in north London last month.

However, Leipzig struck with two first half goals via Marcel Sabitzer to put the Premier League side in a perilous position heading into the second half.

And BT Sport pundits Crouch and Hoddle, who both enjoyed stints at Spurs, have been critical of Lloris' role in both goals.

The Frenchman got a hand to Sabitzer's strike from range but was not strong enough to turn it away from goal, while he was beaten at his near post from a header.

'You’ve got to question the goalkeeper,' Crouch began. 'He could be further out (off his line). He stays on his line far too much and he actually gets there but he’s got to have a stronger wrist.'

Hoddle said that Lloris' tendency to stay on his goal line is a technical problem plaguing the goalkeeper.

'If he’s in the right position, just a yard inside his six yard box he saves that with ease,' he said. 'The problem is it’s a pattern.

'It’s something he’s worked at and obviously he wants to be deep in his goals but the deeper you are in your goal you’re giving away the corners. I just think it’s a technical thing he’s got to get out of.'

Hoddle was even more scathing for Leipzig's second, and third across the two legs, as Lloris tipped the ball into his own net.

'You can’t be beaten at your near post,' he said. 'That is outside the six yard box. If you get beat, you get beat across your goal surely.

'We’re not digging him out, we’re just saying… actually we are digging him out because they’re two mistakes but at the end of the day at the top level, the Champions League, you get caught out if you’re in the wrong position. It’s as simple as that.'
