Mamadou Sakho has become the latest Crystal Palace star to join the ever-growing list of players on the treatment table as they head into their FA Cup third-round clash against Derby with eight first-teamers out.

The 29-year-old former Liverpool centre back, who has already missed most of the season with injury, pulled up after overstretching his right hamstring away at Norwich on New Year's Day.

He had only played eight Premier league matches this season, but is now set to be sidelined for the foreseeable future with his latest problem.

Sakho joins a number of first-team players on the treatment table in Beckenham, with fellow defenders Jeffrey Schlupp, Gary Cahill, Joel Ward, Scott Dann and Patrick van Aanholt also out.

In midfield Andros Townsend is also sidelined, while Christian Benteke has a strain that will also keep him out for the coming weeks.

Roy Hodgson would have been unlikely to play the majority of those in the FA Cup game against Derby this weekend, but the Premier League games are still coming thick and fast for Palace.

Over the Christmas period, the likes of James Daly, Sam Woods, Nya Kirby and Brandon Pierrick have been promoted to the bench from the academy, with the latter coming on to help secure a draw at Carrow Road this week.

Speaking about Sakho's injury at his pre-Derby press conference, Hodgson said: 'Sakho has been added to the injury list - he's going to be missing for a considerable amount of time.

'Gary Cahill trained today. The rest remains the same.'
