Crystal Palace hope to confirm the loan signing of Mainz striker Jean-Philippe Mateta after he arrived in London ahead of a medical on Wednesday.

As Sportsmail reported, the move will be an 18-month loan for a £2.7million fee with an obligation to buy for £13.4m when Mateta, 23, has started 15 Premier League games.

Mateta's arrival at Palace could also pave the way for Christian Benteke's departure this month.

Palace have held a long-standing interest in Mateta as they hope his arrival will put an end to that lack of goals.

Crystal Palace have struggled for goals this season with Christian Benteke scoring just three league goals and Jordan Ayew only managing one.

Michy Batshuayi has been failed to convert in front of goal - having not yet found the net since re-signing on loan from Chelsea.

The club hope Mateta's arrival will bolster Roy Hodgson's attack - having scored a total of 10 goals this season, including seven in the Bundesliga.
