Cucurella sends eight-word Chelsea message ahead of UCL clash vs Real Madrid

Chelsea news: Marc Cucurella has sent a message to Blues fans with their Champions League meeting against Real Madrid on the horizon

Marc Cucurella has insisted that Chelsea must stick together after their defeat to Wolves with a decisive Champions League clash against Real Madrid up next. The Blues continue to languish the Premier League table remaining eleventh after another poor defeat.

The clash at Molineux was the first game in the second reign at the helm of Chelsea for Frank Lampard, following his shock interim appointment earlier in the week. However, it was not a fairy-tale return for the 44-year-old who watched his team lose to Wolves courtesy of a Matheus Nunes stunner.

"I think it's a big task," Lampard said after the game. "You're managing Chelsea Football Club. We know we're not in a position we want to be in. There's always a reason for it, the reality of the league season. I was aware of that and I didn't expect to solve everything in one day.

"At the same time, maybe a bit of it, I think it was a performance if I really analyse it and you want to win a Premier League game, I think you have to have more aggression in your game. More speed, more competitive duels that go your way rather than the opposition."

The Blues don't have long to reflect on another blank and loss as they head to Spain for a Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid. The European victory for Graham Potter over Borussia Dortmund was the highlight of his brief tenure in west London and now Lampard has the opportunity to finish a challenge he was unable to complete in 2021.

Carlo Ancelotti's side dispatched of Liverpool with relative ease in the previous round and are the current holders of the title after beating the same time in the final last season. However, Chelsea performed admirably in their last visit to Santiago Bernabeu beating Madrid 3-2 in 2022 on their own patch but ultimately lost the quarter-final tie on aggregate 5-4.

Under Thomas Tuchel, Chelsea had struggled domestically in that season but not quite to the extent of there struggles this year. Nonetheless, Cucurella has sent a message to Chelsea supporters and his teammates after Wolves and ahead of Madrid.

In an Instagram post, Cucurella posted a photo of Chelsea lining up before playing Wolves with the caption: "Tough times, but we need to stick together."
