Dani Alves has left Sao Paulo after two years at the club amid a pay dispute with the Brazilian side, according to reports.
The 38-year-old joined his boyhood club on a free transfer in August 2019 and became the best-paid footballer in South America after leaving Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain.
But MARCA report the Brazil international has now left the Brasileirao outfit because he has not been paid in full for either of his two seasons, and is still owed £2.6million (€3m).
The club then stated via The Mirror: 'We were informed by his representatives that Daniel Alves will not return to Sao Paulo until there is an adjustment of the financial debt that Sao Paulo has with the player.'
Alves' deal was due to run until December next year, but the Brazilian is now a free agent once again and has been linked with a move to the MLS, clubs in the Middle East, as well as Boca Juniors and River Plate.
Speaking in March, the clubs' football director, Carlos Belmonte, said the coronavirus pandemic had contributed to the situation.
'Of course, we have this situation to resolve, which is still open, to reconstruct the financial issue. We can do this, Daniel stays.
'We had a long conversation with Daniel, and he always demonstrates the real desire to continue in São Paulo. He is a professional above all, absolutely committed, this I can guarantee you.'
His move to Sao Paulo saw him unusually wear the number 10 shirt, but he did net on 10 occasions and provide a further 15 assists in 95 appearances for the club.
The right-back meanwhile also captained his country to the Olympic gold at the Tokyo Games this summer.
The medal took the former Barcelona star's personal trophy haul to 43, making him the most decorated footballer of all time.
Alves - despite currently without a club - now intends to earn a place in Tite's Brazilian squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The wing-back has won four international trophies, with Copa America titles in 2007 and 2019 - when he was named Player of the Tournament - while he has also played a key role in the Confederations Cup winning sides of 2009 and 2013.
His most successful glut of trophy winning at one club came at Camp Nou, winning 23 trophies including six La Liga titles and three Champions League medals.
Six more pieces of silverware in two seasons at PSG followed after he won the double in his one and only season at Juventus.
