David Alaba's father has criticised Bayern Munich following the defender's departure from the club.

Alaba will officially become a Real Madrid player on July 1 after he was unable to agree a new contract with Bayern.

Despite Alaba having played for Bayern for over a decade, there was some animosity regarding his move, with CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge accusing the Austria international of being too focused on how much he earns.

Rummenigge claimed that Alaba wanted €19.5 million (£17million) a year in order to stay at Bayern.

However, Alaba's father hit back at Bayern, saying that his son didn't hold talks regarding wages.

George Alaba told the Bayern Insider podcast: 'I don't want to go into detail, but those responsible know what really happened. I can only say that with the passage of time, positions became very much hardened and that we did not have any kind of discussion about money.

'Therefore, I did not get to understand why, in the end, he did not stop talking about money. The talks started before the Covid. I was disappointed because it was used as an excuse in our case when there was some other renovation in the same period of time that passed in a quiet way '.

Rummenigge had told Kicker Magazine: 'I think very few people in this existential crisis understand when a professional footballer already earns 15 million a year and then is not satisfied with 19.5 million.'

In addition, Bayern's former president Uli Hoeness had criticised Alaba's agent Pini Zahavi for failing to agree a deal.

Hoeness described Zahavi as 'a greedy piranha', something which Alaba's father took exception to.

George Alaba said: 'He did not deserve to be called a greedy piranha. I reject it completely. It was leaked that we were asking for 20 million euros to renew, then 19.5. What figure are we left with?

And all this to, later, go to the press in the most populist way possible and call Pini a 'greedy piranha'. Words failed me. I do not want to criticize anyone in particular, but it did not come to mind '.

Speaking last year, Hoeness told Sport 1: 'He has a greedy piranha for an agent.

'He lets himself be influenced by him very much. This is really all about the money. He is already at the best club in the world.

'Where else would he go? We had a coffee several times over the past weeks, but because of Zahavi there has not been a result yet.'

Although his Bayern career ended in difficult circumstances, Alaba will certainly look back on his time at the club with fondness.

In total he made 431 appearances for Bayern, while he won the Champions League twice, ten Bundesliga titles and six DFB-Pokals.
