David Beckham's Inter Miami axes 10 players, makes room for Harvey Neville

The Inter Miami soccer team has reportedly cut 10 players from its roster as it attempts to refresh the ranks after former England player David Beckham's team failed to make the play-offs.

The team's coach Phil Neville's son Harvey has been promoted into Inter Miami's first-team squad, according to a report in British tabloid The Sun.

In addition to the 10 players ousted, former Stoke City player Brek Shea and on-loan Aston Villa midfielder Indiana Vassilev are out of contract and could also leave, The Sun reported.

Harvey Neville has made an impression at Miami's sister club Fort Lauderdale and is now poised to step up, coach Phil Neville told SunSport:

"He's done well and although he has a lot of development to do, he is part of a group of eight to 10 players who we want to get involved with the MLS team.

"He is only young. There are ups and downs and many challenges ahead but he just has to keep up his attitude.

"We are a club which needs to produce its own players and we want to get this group on the pitch as soon as we can," Neville said.

Young blood

Chris Henderson, Inter Miami'schief soccer officer, told a press conference on Tuesday that the team is putting its faith in young blood to better face the next season.

"I'm very excited because Phil Neville is great at working with young players, one of the best I've seen on the grass," Henderson said.

"I think that's going to be an opportunity. With what we're dealing with in the next two years, we're going to need to rely on youth and developing those players."

"I feel like we now have processes that are in place which weren't in place when I arrived," Henderson said. "This is what's going to give us the foundation for long-term, sustained success. We're working diligently on improving the first team."
