David Luiz makes Chelsea fan's day by turning up at her birthday dinner

David Luiz followed up a fine display against Liverpool by surprising a Chelsea fan at her birthday dinner on Saturday night.

The Brazilian defender and his girlfriend Bruna Loureiro took time out from their evening to celebrate with die-hard supporter Carol Ann Wood and her friends.

A clearly delighted Ann Wood took to Twitter to share a number of photos from the evening, Luiz and his girlfriend looking to be having a great time.

'If Carlsberg did birthday parties,' the Blues fan wrote. 'I went to David's party so he decided to come to mine. All a well-kept secret. What a guy'

Luiz was impressive as Chelsea drew 1-1 with Liverpool at Stamford Bridge earlier in the day and new manager Maurizio Sarri was full of praise for the 31-year-old.

'Yes, I have to say he is a lot better than I thought,' the Italian told reporters at Stamford Bridge.

'A lot better, both as a player and as a man. I don't know what happened before I arrived, but when I arrived here, immediately I had the feeling that he is a very good player for my way of football because he is a very technical centre back.

'Then I appreciated his qualities as a man. He is direct, if he has to say something to the manager, to talk to me. Then he goes directly to me. I don't know [if Conte didn't like it] but I like very much the direct people. I like this [communication] very much.'
