David Moyes is now set to sign a new two-and-a-half year deal with West Ham

David Moyes is set to end speculation surrounding his future by signing a new contract with West Ham after gatecrashing the Premier League’s top six.

The deal, believed to be two-and-a-half years, is close to being finalised. It follows the club’s fine form this season after Moyes delivered the Hammers their first trophy in 43 years in the Europa Conference League.

Moyes’ existing contract was due to expire at the end of this season but the West Ham board feel the time is right to reward their manager amid positive results.

West Ham beat Arsenal 2-0 on Thursday to leave themselves sixth in the Premier League, while they are already through to the Europa League’s last 16.

Friday marked four years since Moyes returned to the club. They were in relegation trouble at that time, but have risen to become regulars in Europe.

Moyes has long insisted he was comfortable with his current contract situation but the former Everton and Manchester United boss was known to be keen to extend his stay.

The board previously insisted they were happy to wait until closer to the end of the season before addressing their managerial situation, but initiated talks amid their current run of only one Premier League loss in their last eight outings.

Supporters have criticised Moyes’ pragmatic style of play this season but they have beaten Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham and Brighton – all while averaging 24 per cent possession.
