David Silva's father has dropped a crucial hint about his son's future, with the 34-year-old set to leave Manchester City after a trophy-laden decade.
The Citizens' clash with Real Madrid in the Champions League last-16 on Friday could be Silva's final game in blue if Zinedine Zidane's side overturn a first-leg 2-1 deficit, with the Spaniard set to be a free-agent at the conclusion of City's European campaign.
The World Cup winner will quit Pep Guardiola's side with four Premier League winner's medals - experience that Lazio are becoming increasingly confident of bringing to the Stadio Olimpico this summer, according to SkySports.
Silva's father, Fernando, has opened up on the veteran midfielder's thoughts as he seeks a new club, after making 434 appearances for City.
'David had been telling me for some years that he wanted to play at Manchester City for a total of 10 years and then end the cycle there,' Fernando Silva told El Transistor.
'I told him one day, "if they're offering you a one-year extension, why don't you take it?" and he told me "well you take it then!".
'One day he tells me one thing and the next he tells me another, personally I would like him to remain in Europe and until the transfer window shuts, I can't rule out anything.
'I can confirm that he likes the Italian league and would really enjoy playing in Italy. He told me he could play there until he's 40 years old.
'At the moment, there are many offers and he has to decide, but I'd love it if he signed for Lazio, because even if Rome is quite far away, it'd be a huge opportunity for him.
'I know it's unlikely he'll come back to Spain, as he always tells me to rule out the idea of a return to Valencia.'
Lazio endured a roller-coaster season in 2019-20, shooting to the top of Serie A in March before a string of defeats following the Covid-19 shutdown saw their title challenge melt away.
Simone Inzaghi's side eventually finished five points behind champions Juventus in fourth, and they will hope Silva's experience will bring consistency to their form.
The Spaniard took over as City club captain for this season and has continued to be a vital influence, scoring six goals and providing 10 assists in 27 Premier League appearances as Guardiola's men secured second-place.
