David de Gea has picked his favourite Manchester United shirts and has named what makes them special.

The 31-year-old joined United back in 2011 for a fee of £22.5m. Arriving from Atletico Madrid, where he had spent all of his career up until that point, De Gea had big gloves to fill at Old Trafford.

Sir Alex Ferguson had purchased the 20-year-old to replace the retired Edwin van der Sar. A whopping 11 years on, De Gea is still United's number one goalkeeper and has become a mainstay for the Reds.

Speaking to BT Sport's What I Wore, De Gea was asked to choose his favourite United shirt and the number one had no hesitation when picking his answer. "I love the black shirts," the Spaniard explained while picking up the 2014-15 goalkeeper's shirt.

"I love them because black is my favourite colour so that is why I love the black one. It is very nice, I love all the shirts but the black ones are the best."

He would then pick up the yellow United away 'keeper shirt from the 2015-16 season, which he declared as also being one of his favourites as he wore it when the Reds won the FA Cup. When asked what makes a shirt special, De Gea gave a simple response.

"It is the badge," he replied. "No matter the colour, no matter the sponsor, it is the badge [that makes it special]."

De Gea kept a clean sheet for United on Thursday night as the Reds beat Sheriff Tiraspol in Moldova 2-0 to pick up their first points in the Europa League. Due to Sunday's postponement of the Leeds game and the international break, United are next in action on Sunday, October 2 in the Manchester derby.
