Frenkie de Jong was at the centre of most people's attention on Wednesday night as Juventus took on Ajax at the Johan Cruyff Arena and the Dutchman didn't disappoint.
The Barcelona-bound midfielder stepped up against Italy's Old Lady after a stellar performance against Real Madrid in the first knockout round and gave another display of why the Catalans have signed him for next season.
Against Juventus, De Jong was practically perfect. Ajax played at his pace, attacked when he decided they attacked, pressed when he started to press and gave their all, as he did, from start to finish.
The 21-year-old moved about the pitch with an elegance and everything the Dutch side did had him at the centre. During the game, he equaled a record that has stood in the Champions League since 2010, when Barcelona took on Inter.

De Jong participated in 117 events. Of those, 98 were passes of which 90 were successful, with 54 coming in Juventus' half. He provided two potential assists, recovered possession 17 times, committed one foul and was the victim of another.
Sergio Busquets was the previously holder of the record, which is now shared with a player who will occupy the midfield alongside him at the Camp Nou next season.
The outcome of the tie remains unknown, but if the Eredivisie side are to achieve another upset in Turin it's certain that De Jong will be at the centre of it.

The second part of Busquets was very good, the first one was horrible, losing easy balls and Barcelona in general. The first part was bad, the second best. Piqué imperial, cleared all the balls, that crack.

At the center of the Madrid field he ate it there and here. Yesterday he did the same with Juventus. If Ajax had one of the many goal scorers in front of them, today Juve would be eliminated
