Burnley vs Tottenham

Tottenham are set to face off with Burnley in a round of 16 League Cup clash on Wednesday evening.

Spurs have not had the best of starts to life under Nuno Espirito Santo, but still likely fancy their chances of getting past Burnley.

The Clarets have endured a torrid start to the campaign and are yet to pick up a league win this term.

To get to the last 16, Burnley would see off Newcastle via penalties and Tottenham edged past Wolves after spot-kicks also.

Dele Alli & Harry Winks out of Tottenham’s squad to face Burnley

Ahead of the game, as mentioned above, it has been confirmed that two senior Tottenham midfielders have been left out of the Lilywhites’ squad to face Burnley.

Said players are, as per the Evening Standard, Dele Alli and Harry Winks. Interestingly, it is added that neither of Winks nor Alli are currently injured, leading to questions as to why they have been completely omitted from the squad.

The pair have been on the fringes of the Spurs squad recently, with Alli forced to settle for a place on the bench in the north Londoners’ last three league ties. Winks, meanwhile, has not featured in the league since the 11th of September.

But with Burnley a weak side and the League Cup seen by many as a secondary competition, it seems strange that Nuno would not opt to give the pair some minutes on Wednesday.
