Netherlands star Memphis Depay wore his latest bizarre fashion piece in a competitive match for the first time as Ronald Koeman's side got their Euro 2024 campaign off to a winning start.
Depay led the line in the 2-1 win against Poland and showcased a custom-made headband that has sparked mixed reaction amongst fans online.
The former Manchester United flop has reignited his career in Spain, first at Barcelona and then at Atletico Madrid, and is a constant presence in the Dutch national team.
Depay has a reputation for possessing a flashy attitude but is now searching for a new club after running down his contract at Atletico, with his performances at the European Championship a chance to show teams what he can offer.
The 30-year-old is renowned for his eye-catching cars and fashion accessories, and has chosen to wear a white sweatband around his head during training sessions and in matches at Euro 2024.
Inscribed with his shirt number 10 on the front of the headband, Depay has had the words 'who cares' stitched into the back of it in golden writing.
Depay endured a difficult afternoon against Poland's defence, missing several chances and was hooked in the 82nd minute as Koeman decided to bring on veteran striker Wout Weghorst in his place.
The substitution appears to have been a stroke of genius as Weghorst scored just two minutes after coming on to win the game 2-1 at the death.
Meanwhile, fans have cast their verdict on Depay's strange new clothing piece, with one post on X stating: 'His aura is untouchable.'
Another post commenting on the design chosen by Depay hilariously added: 'It’s looking like he doesn’t neither with the way he’s finishing,' in response to the words 'who cares' featuring on the headband.
A third post similarly continued, adding: 'Still as frustrating as ever to watch just like when he was at United.'
Depay is expected to feature in his side's next group game when the Netherlands take on France next Friday.
