Manchester City are poised to beat local rivals Manchester United to the £65million capture of Harry Maguire this summer.
Both Manchester clubs are in for England star Maguire, but Premier League champions City have moved ahead of United in the race to sign him.
Maguire is ready to move on after two years at Leicester and it is understood City is the 26-year-old's preferred destination, in particular the chance to play under Pep Guardiola.
City boss Guardiola wants a centre-back to replace Vincent Kompany and sees Maguire as the perfect replacement for his legendary former skipper, who left at the end of the season.
United are also in for Maguire, as new boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's embarks on his major squad rebuild, but have failed to meet Leicester's valuation of their prized asset.
Although Leicester are said to value Maguire at £80m, it is understood they would accept a fee of £65m, which City are willing to pay the Foxes.
The move would make Maguire City's record signing, eclipsing the £60m the Blues paid Leicester for his former team-mate, Riyad Mahrez, last summer.
Maguire would also join up with England team-mates Kyle Walker, John Stones, Fabian Delph and Raheem Sterling at City.
City are also set to seal the £62.5m capture of Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodri, seen as the long-term replacement for Fernandinho, this summer, in a huge show of strength from the champions.
Despite making it back-to-back Premier League triumphs with last season's epic title win over Liverpool , City are determined to make themselves even stronger by moving early in the transfer market.
United are said to have offered in the region of £40m for Maguire, a figure not even entertained by Leicester, while City are understood to be prepared to pay what it takes to land him.
Solskajer wants his transfer targets on board before United return for pre-season training on July 1, with the Reds set to make a third improved bid for Crystal Palace right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
United failed with opening bids of £40m and £50m, and are weighing up a third and final offer for the England Under-21 international, who Solskajer is desperate to sign.

United making a big mistake in signing AWB instead they should have gone for Maguire. I remember Ole saying that United is not readymade players club. I was expecting him to develop Dalot, I know they need a backup which they can get from the he academy.

1st rumour:70m rejected 2nd rumour:90m rejected This rumour : 65m transfer nearly completed while others price increases maguire is the only one to have discount best deal of the season goes to city
65m for Maguire is not a good deal, he’s class but not worth 65m, maybe at city he could prove me wrong

What happened to the 90m asking price? Leicester must have come to their senses and realized that a defender at the peak of his career should never cost more than VVD

You can not have a non-football man in Ed Woodward and baby face Ole onboard and expect miracles. All through this window season, what I have been reading is linked, close-to, with no real exciting transfer on the table. I am told United is linked with Donald T and even M. Bubu. Shame.
