Did Isco reject Marcelo's captain armband & give it to Carvajal in CSKA defeat?

Isco turned down the captain's armband when skipper Marcelo was taken off during Real Madrid's Champions League defeat to CSKA Moscow.

Isco rejected the captain's armband when Marcelo was substituted during Real Madrid's surprise home defeat to CSKA Moscow on Wednesday, the Brazilian has revealed.

I don't know why Isco turned down the armband, says Marcelo

"I tried to give the armband to Isco [when I came off for Dani Carvajal]," the left-back, who was Madrid's skipper for the 3-0 Champions League loss, told reporters post-match. "But he told me that I had to give it to Carvajal. I don't know what the reason for that was."

"I didn't see Isco's reaction, but I don't think it was against the fans"

Marcelo also offered his thoughts on an incident that saw Isco seemingly confront the unhappy Bernabéu crowd as Los Blancos fell to their heaviest ever at home loss in Europe.

"I didn't see Isco's reaction," he said. "but I don't think it was against the fans. We're here to give our all for this club. We're really hurting, but all we can do is recover and focus on the weekend."

Isco made a promise with Carvajal before the match

Isco was captain over Carvajal against Melilla, and the reason is simple: it's the line of succession at Madrid - Sergio Ramos, Marcelo, Karim Benzema, Raphael Varane, Nacho, Gareth Bale, Luka Modric and then Isco.

With Isco signing for Madrid on July 3 and Carvajal arriving with the first team on July 5, the seniority held by the former over the defender is minuscule, if it exists at all and, as a result, the ex-Malaga player promised that Carvajal could take it.

And so, in the 74th minute, when Marcelo was taken off, Isco instructed the Brazilian to pass the armband on to Carvajal instead.
