Poland striker Robert Lewandowski was perhaps fortunate there is no VAR in the Nations League, as he caught Alessandro Bastoni with an elbow.
The incident occurred after 22 minutes, when Italy defender Bastoni had his arms around the forward, who was trying to shrug him off.
In doing so, Lewandowski seemed to lash out an elbow and caught Bastoni square on the chin.
The Azzurri were irritated and asked for at least a yellow card, but without VAR, had to rely on what the referee and his assistants had seen.
A free kick was given against Bastoni, but would that necessarily have saved Lewandowski from punishment for a reaction foul?
