Former Manchester United title-winning striker Dimitar Berbatov believes Wayne Rooney will take charge at Old Trafford in the future.
Berbatov partnered Rooney in a star-studded side between 2008 and 2012 where the pair won two Premier League titles, two League cups and the Club World Cup together.
The Bulgarian has been keeping an eye on developments at his former side and has tipped Rooney to become Man United boss in the future.
Rooney is United's all-time top goalscorer and currently manages MLS outfit DC United, and Berbatov is adamant in his belief that the Englishman has what it takes to lead the English giants to success.
'Not many players from my time at Manchester United have actually gone into management,' Berbatov told Betfred.
'But, in my opinion, Wayne Rooney would like to be a future Manchester United manager and I'm pretty sure he's going to be.
'He's currently paying his dues in club management at the moment, gaining vital experience and getting better and better, so I'm pretty sure he will manage Manchester United one day.'
Rooney has won just four out of 12 games in charge of DC United this season, but has managed to guide the team to the Eastern Conference's last playoff spot.
However, any chance he has at taking charge at United could be spoiled by Erik ten Hag's successful first season in the Old Trafford hotseat.
Ten Hag appears to be targeted a long-term managerial reign at the club and has so far won the League Cup and will take on Manchester City in the FA Cup final during his first year in charge.
The Dutchman's position could be solidified further with a new United ownership takeover set to guarantee crucial funds ahead of the summer transfer window.
Meanwhile, Berbatov also backed former midfielder Michael Carrick to try and land a management position at the 13-time Premier League champions in the future after his exploits at Middlesbrough this season.
Carrick has guided the Championship outfit to the playoffs in his first full-time management position since leaving Old Trafford where he was temporary interim boss last season.
Berbatov added: 'I'm sure Michael Carrick would also like to be Manchester United manager in the future.
'Anybody would want to manage the club they love, and he's currently doing very well at Middlesbrough.
'Michael was a very intelligent player on the pitch, a midfield maestro, and he's showing everybody that he's a very intelligent manager too.'

Rooney was never a Manchester United fan, he's a Liverpool boy, he's from Mersey side of the country and never really talks good about UTD in core. his ambition to be remembered as an elite football endeared him to United as the club had the platform he's badly wanted

As a what exactly? We respect his legacy but please don’t ever ruin his legacy by offering him the role of a coach cause he will definitely fail.
