Diogo Dalot insists Antony’s flair is “part of his game” after the winger produced his showpiece skill for the first time at Manchester United during Thursday’s 3-0 Europa League win over FC Sheriff.
The Brazilian performed his ‘Anturny’ trademark move, which sees him drag the ball 360-degrees with his foot in one motion, not long before half-time with the score at 0-0. He then tried to thread a pass through to Casemiro, but overhit it for a goal-kick.
United boss Erik ten Hag reacted with a disappointed shake of the head while Dalot reminded him to stay in tune with the game following his mistake. But speaking to Sky Sports on Friday, the defender defended Antony for his theatrics.
“He wants to entertain a little bit in his game. It’s a part of the way he plays,” he said. “We’re happy to have Antony with us, he’s a fantastic player and I’m sure that his technique and his dribbling will help.”
Dalot added: “There is always going to be talk after a mistake, he missed the pass but if the pass went through, Casemiro was in a good position to receive the ball and probably assist or score a goal.
“So I think it’s normal after he missed the pass but I don’t think we should focus too much on what he did, it’s just part of his game. We’re happy to have a player like him.”
The moment produced a backlash from pundits during the game. Robbie Savage said the incident was “embarrassing” while Paul Scholes labelled him “a clown” for the antics.
Speaking after the match, though, Ten Hag said he didn’t mind his players showing skills if the end result is there. "I don't have a problem with that as long as it's functional," he said.
“But if it's a trick because of a trick then I will correct him.” Antony was substituted at half-time but Ten Hag clarified that it was not to do with his piece of showboating.

Exactly Diogo, forget the opinions of these stupid English pundits, if it's a player, manager, staff member, owner, or president of a club confirming a fact then I'll believe it, but if it's just a pundit barking like foolish dog waiting to whipped with a belt, then I'll just wash it off because everything they say is a lie and dumb
