Diogo Jota has taken to social media to express his disappointment that he will be ruled out of the World Cup through injury.
The forward was stretchered off in the dying minutes of Liverpool's 1-0 home win against Manchester City and the resulting injury will force him out of the World Cup.
Jota has since tweeted fans the news that his dreams of representing his country in a World Cup have 'collapsed'.
The 25-year-old tweeted: 'After such a good night at Anfield mine ended in the worst way ! In the last minute one of my dreams collapsed.
'I will be one more supporting from the outside, club and country, and fighting to be back as soon as possible.'
Jota then signed off his Tweet with the famous Liverpool slogan and song 'You'll Never Walk Alone.'
The injury to Jota will be disappointing news for anyone involved with Liverpool and Portugal as the versatile forward is an important player for both club and country.
The Portuguese international was influential in Liverpool's bounce back to winning ways against Manchester City and was heavily praised for his work on and off the ball throughout the game.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was the first to share news of the severity of Jota's injury during his press conference ahead of Liverpool's game against West Ham.
'Jota will be out for a long time, we talk about months,' said the German manager. 'We will see - I don't want to put a number on it because I hope there is a positive moment in rehab, but it will be long.'
Klopp continued: 'Jota will miss the World Cup, really serious injury in the calf and we have to recover him. The process starts and that's it. Very sad news for the boy, for us and Portugal.'
Liverpool and Portugal fans will be hoping that Jota can return to action as quickly as possible in the New Year.
