Axel Disasi is ready for the challenge of helping West Ham in their bid for Premier League survival.

Disasi joined West Ham on Monday, securing a last-minute loan switch from Chelsea.

The centre-back, who spent time on loan at Aston Villa last term, has not played a single minute for the Blues this term.

West Ham, who allowed Igor Julio to return to Brighton last month, made a late move for the 27-year-old, who has joined for the rest of the season.

"I'm very happy to be here, to have this opportunity," Disasi told West Ham's website.

"I'm just ready to fight and to play games.

"Everyone knows my situation in the last few months, so I just want to get back on the field, feel the sensation of games and help the team.

"The club has given me the opportunity to show my quality on the pitch. I spoke with all the people here, and I feel that they really wanted me, so that's why I'm here today.

"It's an exciting challenge. We know that the club is not at the place that it should be, but I'm here to help the team and to bring what I can to achieve our goal."

West Ham went down 3-2 to Disasi's parent club last time out, having led 2-0 at half-time at Stamford Bridge.

The Hammers are 18th in the Premier League, six points adrift of Nottingham Forest and Leeds United directly above them.
