Does Nathan Ake still want to re-join Chelsea?

Manchester City defender Nathan Ake has had a great start to the season, playing regularly and playing well in Pep Guardiola’s team so far this campaign.

The Dutchman was previously down the pecking order, but injuries to others have allowed Ake to get more opportunities in the starting team and Ake has impressed with the chances given to him.

The defender was linked with a move away to Chelsea in the summer transfer window but he ended up staying at the Etihad Stadium and that is looking like a good decision as time goes by.

Now, Ake has spoken about the transfer rumours from the summer and what the future holds for him at Manchester City as he continues to have an important role in the team.

Ake speaks on Manchester City future

Ake was linked with a return to Chelsea this past summer as they were looking to strengthen their defence and a move for the defender was close.

Chelsea reportedly agreed terms but City ended up backing out on the deal as they wanted to keep members of their squad and felt that Ake was going to be tough to replace.

The Premier League champions had Marc Cucurella in their sights but a move fell through as Brighton were asking for a fee too high – in the end, the Spaniard ended up moving to Chelsea and Ake stayed at City.

Now, Ake has spoken about his City future: "I'm very happy to be at Man City and I'm happy that I stayed here in the summer. I was never worried about competition."

So good has been Ake’s form that he’s set to be a starting defender for Louis van Gaal’s Netherlands side heading to the World Cup this winter, and he’s happy with the way things are going.

It looks likely that Ake will remain at the Etihad until the end of the season as Guardiola will be keen to reward his good form and the chance to impress again at the World Cup won’t go unnoticed.
