Domino's Pizza troll Liverpool's Nunez with brutal dig after Brentford defeat

Domino's Pizza have mocked Darwin Nunez after the Liverpool striker endured another tough night in front of goal during the Reds' 3-1 defeat against Brentford on Monday night.

Nunez, 23, became Liverpool's record signing when he arrived from Benfica in a deal that could rise to £85million back in the summer but has struggled to live up to expectations. The Uruguay international has plundered nine goals in 22 games, but has been criticised in some quarters for missing big chances.

The Reds forward had a goal-bound shot blocked near the line by Ben Mee and a strike ruled out by VAR during the defeat against the Bees - and his night went from bad to worse after he was brutally mocked by popular fast-food chain Domino's online.

Domino's shared a picture of Nunez with a mischievous caption which mocked his misses. The tweet read: "Sorry if we've missed any orders tonight, we've just had this guy start."

The tweet, which had clocked up 1.6 million views and over 38,000 likes at the time of writing, is the latest tongue-in-cheek reference to some of the big chances that Nunez has spurned since moving to Merseyside.

A statistic which emerged after the match revealed that no player in the Premier League has missed more big chances than the 15 that Nunez has failed to convert so far this term.

But Nunez was defended by his Anfield teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold earlier this week ahead of the trip to Brentford - with the Reds right-back insisting the striker had been "outstanding" since his big summer switch.

Speaking to the club's official website, Alexander-Arnold said: “I think I speak on behalf of all the lads: he's been, I think, outstanding since he came in. People will judge him on his goals and that's part of being a striker, that's part of life.

"But I think he can keep walking off the pitch with his head held high because he is getting in positions that are really, really hurting the opposition. He's such a threat, he's getting in behind, he's holding the ball up, he's flicking balls on, he's doing everything that the manager has asked of him. His pressing, his attitude, his desire, you can't question any of it.

“You'll get people who will say he's missed a few chances and he's missed one-on-ones and maybe he should have tucked the second goal away, but he's getting himself in those positions and when the goals do come I'm sure they will come like London buses!

"We're just waiting for that but he's a fantastic lad and he's an outstanding player as well.”
