Dortmund 'believe they can convince Utd target Sancho to sign new deal'

Borussia Dortmund are reportedly confident they can convince Jadon Sancho to stay at the club this summer and get the England ace to sign a one-year contract extension that would take his salary to £9million.

The 20-year-old is the subject of major interest from Premier League giants like Manchester United and Chelsea after another stunning season in the Bundesliga.

Sancho netted 14 goals and provided 16 assists in his 23 Bundesliga matches this season before it was shut down due to the coronavirus outbreak.

It was claimed the pandemic may result in United and Chelsea putting off their moves for him for another year and, according to Forbes, Dortmund are now hopeful of tying him down.

It is claimed Sancho's blossoming partnership with January arrival Erling Haaland has also made Dortmund hopeful of retaining their prized asset.

Dortmund are willing to offer him a one-year extension to his current contract, which is due to expire in the summer of 2022.

The proposed one-year extension would reportedly see Sancho's earnings rise to €10m (£9m) per season, an increase of €4m (£3.5m).

But a report in The Sun last week claimed Sancho and United have 'agreed almost every detail of a move to Old Trafford.'

It is believed that the length of Sancho's contract, his salary, bonuses and buyout clause have all been agreed - though United must now agree a fee with the German side.

Dortmund are refusing to budge from their £120m valuation, hence their reluctance to sell for a lower fee this summer when English clubs may be able to afford the full amount next year.

Club chief Hans Joachim Watzke recently admitted: 'I can explicitly say that even the very rich clubs, despite the existential crisis, should not believe that they can go on a bargain tour with us.

'We don't have to sell anyone below their value. In my opinion, I don't think (Sancho) wants to leave.  I think he has the feeling that this club has a good future.

'It's not a question of money. For us, it would be the best position if he stays at Borussia Dortmund.

'We have enough money. We want to have titles. I think this team has a lot more potential with Jadon than without Jadon.'
