Borussia Dortmund forward Carney Chukwuemeka has switched his allegiance to Austria from England at senior international level.

Chukwuemeka had previously represented England from the Under-17 level through to the Under-20s, with the former Chelsea player representing the Three Lions 23 times at youth level.

He was also a part of the England squad that won the Under-19 European Championship in 2022, finishing as his team's top scorer in the tournament with three goals.

The 23-year-old will now represent Austria, the country where he was born, at the international level after FIFA approved the switch.

Austria qualified for this summer's World Cup, reaching the final of the competition for the first time since 1998.

They will face Algeria, Jordan, and reigning champions Argentina in the group stage, while Chukwuemeka could make his debut in international friendlies against Ghana and South Korea later this month.

Chukwuemeka was one of two players to switch their nationality to join Austria, alongside PSV midfielder Paul Wanner, who played for Germany at youth level.
