Manchester United's move for Paulo Dybala broke down over a row over his image rights — and a demand for £15million to buy them.
United were hoping to sign Dybala in exchange for Romelu Lukaku but the Juventus forward was unable to agree to terms with the Premier League side despite being told he had no future in Turin.
And Sportsmail understands that a significant issue was the fact Dybala's image rights are owned by a third party.
The Old Trafford side were keen to get them as part of the deal but were not willing to meet the £15m valuation the company had placed on them.
United chiefs were planning to fly out and try to thrash out a deal. They decided against it after finding out about the figure.
They even decided to cancel the flight they had already booked.
Dybala might struggle to move to another club from Juventus in the future due to the situation surrounding his image rights.
The breakdown of the move is thought to have damaged relationships between Juventus and United.
But there is no indication that it will impact Romelu Lukaku's mooted move to Turin.
