Crisis club Bolton's suspended Championship fixture against Brentford will not be played this week, the EFL have confirmed.
Bolton's troubled season hit its lowest point after their league game at home to Brentford, originally scheduled for Saturday, was called off on Friday evening, with Wanderers players refusing to play in protest at unpaid wages.
The EFL Board, however, told Bolton they must fulfil their remaining two fixtures against Brentford, which was reportedly rescheduled to be played on Wednesday, and Nottingham Forest on May 5.
But on Tuesday morning, the EFL issued a statement to say that Wednesday's rescheduled match against Brentford will not be played, which could see Wanderers' season extended beyond the last round of fixtures.
The statement read: 'The EFL Board will now determine on Thursday 2 May 2019 as to what arrangements are to be put in place in regards to the fixture and Bolton Wanderers will be instructed accordingly.
'As previously advised EFL Regulations do provide for any League match to be played within four days of the end of the normal playing season (Sunday 5 May 2019).
'The EFL reserves its position in relation to the Club not making the arrangements to play the game at the earliest opportunity and this matter will be brought to the attention of the Independent Disciplinary Commission the Club has been referred to at the appropriate time.'
Bolton are already consigned to relegation from the Championship, sitting one from bottom above Ipswich.
The club could face serious points reductions if they enter into administration. They could see themselves have 12 points deducted next term as well as further punishment should they fail to fulfil either or both of their last two fixtures this season.
