Mikel Arteta (Arsenal)

Arteta's Arsenal won two and drew one of their August Premier League matches, securing back-to-back 2-0 victories over Wolverhampton Wanderers and Aston Villa. In the win at Villa, Arsenal were perhaps fortunate to be level before Arteta changed the game by bringing on Leandro Trossard, who scored within two minutes of entering the play. In their other match they drew 1-1 at home to unbeaten Brighton & Hove Albion despite playing nearly all of the second half with 10 men after Declan Rice's red card. 

Pep Guardiola (Man City)

The 2023/24 Barclays Manager of the Season has picked up where he left off last campaign, starting Manchester City's title defence with three victories from three matches, winning at Chelsea and West Ham United either side of a turnaround triumph over Ipswich Town. Guardiola's Man City scored nine goals in August, three more than any other team. 

Fabian Hurzeler (Brighton)

The youngest permanent head coach in Premier League history, at 31, is on the shortlist after going unbeaten in his first three Premier League matches with Brighton. Wins at Everton and at home to Manchester United were followed by a 1-1 draw at Arsenal, meaning the Seagulls ended August second in the table having gone unbeaten in their opening three matches of a top-flight season for just a second time.

Arne Slot (Liverpool)

New Liverpool head coach Slot became the first Reds manager to win both of his first two league matches since Graeme Souness in 1991. His team scored four goals without conceding across two August matches, beating Ipswich Town 2-0 and Brentford 2-0. Slot's Liverpool were one of only two teams, along with Man City, to end August with a 100 per cent winning record.
